Home Improvement Trends for 2016

2015 was a great year for the home improvement industry and 2016 looks like it is gearing up to be even better. With the housing market on track for some recovery and homeowners looking to make their houses truly homes (courtesy of some much needed home improvements), we thought now would be a good time to look at some home trends for 2016 that will be popular and help add not just a pleasant look to you space, but value as well.

Bathrooms

Spa-styled and themed bathrooms are likely going to continue being a favorite remodeling project of homeowners in 2016 and with good reason: we tend to spend a huge amount of time in our bathroom space (think showering, shaving and so forth), so why not make that time more enjoyable and relaxing? Big soaker tubs are an added luxury item a lot of home buyers are asking for, as well as showers with the full treatment of multiple shower heads (with built-in massagers and pulsers of course).

If you can afford it, floor warmers and towel warmers are also great and surprisingly affordable compared to previous years. Environmentally-friendly toilets are also a great idea that can help reduce your monthly water bills and give a little back to mother nature at the same time!

Smart Home Technology

Let’s face it: high-tech is here to stay. More and more we are seeing homes adopting smart technology in nearly every room and this trend will likely continue far into the future, as tech-savvy homeowners look to simplify daily routines in their houses. From HVAC systems that automatically adjust temperature based on your personal preferences, to automated lighting that dims or brightens depending upon the time of day, smart home tech is no longer just for the wealthy.

Having the ability to lock and unlock doors, tap into video camera systems remotely, and control virtually any appliance on your grid are all popular additions as well. And of course, with all of the new home gadgetry and personal tech floating around, it is becoming more and more necessary to have outlets in the home that include a USB charger or adapter to keep your cell phones, tablets and gear powered up.

Large Kitchens

Finally, what list of home remodeling trends for 2016 would be complete without adding large, spacious kitchens? The kitchen area is typically the gathering place of the home during the holidays and for special events, and let’s face it, even for the everyday gathering of family members. Having room to cook together, clean together, and chat over some mugs of hot cocoa or other tantalizing beverages, is a great idea and a perfect way to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Homeowners know this and are asking for more space in their kitchen areas – even at the expense of taking up space from another area, such as the living room. This has been a trend for several years now and we do not expect it to slow anytime soon. Kitchen islands that are multi-functional are a good trend for the kitchen that add extra seating space and storage. If you do not have space for a permanent island, floating/movable islands are good option for when you have guests over and want to spend time together in this central gathering spot.
