Kitchen Downsizing

For most of us, figuring out how to downsize a kitchen area is no simple task. Maybe we want to extend another space in the home, such as the living room, and want to use the excess kitchen area for that purpose.

Whatever the reason, Tracy Tesmer Design/Remodeling can help you downsize your kitchen area. Whether you have a downsize plan in place or need help from beginning to end, Tracy Tesmer has the experience and know-how to make the process simple and painless.

Kitchen Downsizing Tips

Part of the kitchen downsizing process is going through old appliances, furnishings, and even dishware to decide what fits and what doesn’t. We suggest that you make a list categorizing all items into three groups: must-keeps (such as your mother’s old china or silverware), maybes and garbage/donate.

Once you know what you are keeping, you will have an idea of how much space is required. With that in mind, you can look at kitchen storage options, such as shelving in your kitchen cabinets or pull-out baskets.

Another great kitchen downsizing idea is to ensure that appliances serve more than one purpose. Instead of having a blender, food processor, juicer, bread maker, and so forth, purchase a KitchenAid with multiple attachments (or similar product). Ask yourself what appliances you use the most and which you never use. Consider donating those items that are unnecessary!

Do not be afraid to get custom made furniture for your kitchen. The price may not be as expensive as you think, and it can make your kitchen much more accessible. Items like mountable microwaves (versus countertop versions) will save you valuable countertop space as well.

Finally, never shy away from using other areas of your home for kitchen storage. Converting your laundry room to serve double duty as a faux pantry is a great idea and storing rarely used gadgets like turkey fryers or rotisserie ovens in the garage will help in your kitchen downsizing efforts.
