Being a homeowner is a big responsibility. To stay in tip-top shape, homes require a lot of tender, loving care by way of maintenance and home improvement projects. Some of these require the touch of a professional, while others are simple DIY tasks even the least handy can tackle.

Easy DIY Home Improvement Ideas

Many homeowners think of home improvement as a laborious task, requiring a lot of hard work, sweat, tears and money. While that can certainly be the case in some instances, there are plenty of simple, budget-friendly DIY projects you can undertake that will make a big impact on how your home looks and functions. Given a little time and thought, these simple touches can even increase the value of your home and its salability. Don’t believe us? Keep reading!

Update Hardware

You would be surprised how much you can change the look of your kitchen cabinets by simply swapping out the old hardware with some new, shinier knobs. Depending upon the number of cabinet doors and kitchen drawers you have, this simple home project shouldn’t take you very long. Typical kitchen cabinet hardware ranges anywhere from a few dollars each to $10 per piece for higher-end parts, depending upon your personal taste.

If you want to try to save a little money, you also can opt to remove the hardware and either clean it or paint it a different color before reinstalling.

Of course, changing hardware is not limited to the kitchen. You can do the same for any furniture in the home, including bedroom armoires, dressers and even vanities.

Turn Your Bathroom Into a Spa Retreat

Okay, so maybe “spa retreat” is a bit of a stretch. However, with a few simple choices, a hundred bucks and a little time, you can really make your hum-drum shower a place of relaxation and something you will look forward to coming home to after a long, hard day at work.

There are plenty of great shower heads on the market that can transform your ordinary shower time into a stress reducing, muscle soothing half hour of water-massage glory. Most of these shower heads offer different settings, such as massage, ozone and pulsating – each designed to relax you while you wash away the dirt of the day. In addition, these shower heads typically take less than 15 minutes to install and are made with the layman DIYer in mind.

Other touches, such as new shower curtains and rugs, a new vanity and even adding some scented infusers are all great ways to add luxury to your bath space.

Transform Your Entryway

A great way to liven up your home and make it more inviting is to spruce up the entryway. A simple painting of the front door (think a lively color) and swapping out the old hardware can do wonders for your curb appeal. Installing an interesting door knocker can be a great conversation piece and add a sense of charm and wonder.

Likewise, the addition of a welcome mat and some potted plants are cheap ways to warm this often-neglected space. A small bench, soft lighting or even playful statues/sculptures are all simple home improvement projects you can perform without the assistance of a professional.

Of course, if you do have a bigger home improvement project you would like handled by a professional (such as a home remodel, renovation or home addition), you can always call in the professionals at Tracy Tesmer Design/Remodeling. We will work with you to complete your home projects on time, within budget, and to your complete satisfaction!
