Summertime is upon us and as North Georgia’s home remodeling experts, we frequently get asked what are the best home improvement projects for summer that homeowners should undertake. While the answer to that particular question can vary greatly from person to person, there are some tried and true home maintenance to-dos that are ideal to tackle during the warmer months.

Summer Pool Maintenance

If you are fortunate enough to own a swimming pool, then you know well how much use it gets between May and August, especially if you have children or play host to family gatherings. With this excess use comes, inevitably, the need for pool maintenance outside of the usual weekly responsibilities. This can include additional shock and chemicals, as well as scrubbing to remove algae and built-up residue.

Checking for water leaks, cracks and peeling paint are also crucial during the period of time, as is scheduling maintenance on pool equipment such as pump motors and filters.

Swimming pool owners also are familiar with airborne outdoor pests such as mosquitoes, as they love to hover around swimmers, searching for a quick lunch. Of course, even if you do not own a swimming pool, you no doubt are bothered by these hungry, pesky intruders – alongside a whole host of nasty pests that love to make their presence known in the warm dog days of summer.

Since summer puts extra stress on your heating and cooling unit, it is pivotal that you give your air conditioner a little extra TLC during these months. Not only will it help keep your family comfortable – especially for residents in North Georgia – but it will also increase the longevity of your system’s life and lower your monthly utility bills.
